Library 情報検索ガイド 事典・辞書の探し方・使い方 How to Search and Use Encyclopedias and Dictionaries 「辞典」と「事典」。どちらも読みは「ジテン」ですが、これらを明確に区別する必要がある場合には、「辞典」は「コトバ典」、「事典」は「コト典」と呼んだりもします。言葉の意味を調べる「国語辞典」を「国語事典」と書いたり、事柄について調べる「百科事典」を「百科辞典」と書いたりはしません。英語でも「辞典」は「dictionary」、「事典」は「cyclopedia」とまったく別のものです。しかし、「事典」もその事柄について説明するのには言葉を用いて説明しますから、両者を厳密に区別するのは難しいことです。『経済学事典』（平凡社, 1967）と『経済学辞典』（岩波書店, 1965）のような例もあります。ここではそれらを厳密に区別することはせずに、図書館での扱いや探し方について説明します。 "Dictionary" and "Encyclopedia" have different characters (Kanji) when written in Japanese, but both are pronounced as "Jiten". Dictionaries explains the meaning of words, and encyclopedias explains matters, but since words are used in the explanation, it is not possible to clearly distinguish between the two. Here, we will explain how to handle and find them in the library without making a strict distinction between them. 図書館での事典・辞書の扱い Handling of Encyclopedias and Dictionaries in the Library 事典とは「編集方針にしたがって物や人物、ことがらを表す言葉を収集、抽出し、それらを見出しとして音順あるいは主題によって排列し、それぞれについて簡潔に解説した」図書です。一般的には「○○事典」「○○辞典」「○○辞書」などという書名が付くことが多いのですが、「ハンドブック」「要覧」「レファレンス」「○○百科」などの書名が付けられている場合もあります。 「特定の情報を求めるときに使用し、全体を通読することは想定されていない」のが特徴で、図書館の中では「利用者の調べもの利用および図書館員のレファレンスサービスに便利なように、一般図書コレクションとは別置され、通常、そのコレクションに含まれる資料は貸し出されない」ものとなっています（※１）。 立命館大学図書館では、主な館に「参考図書コーナー」という書架が設けられ、多くの事典・辞書が並べられています。「ハンドブック」「要覧」や、他大学では「参考図書」として取り扱われることの多い「六法」の多くは、年に1回発行されるという特徴の共通性から、「白書・統計コーナー」に並べられています。書架に並べきれずに書庫に入れられているものもあります。それらをすべて合わせると、相当な数の事典や辞書が所蔵され、利用できるようになっています。 書名が「○○事典」となっていても、ひとつひとつの項目についての説明が長かったり、配列が主題別であったりして、全体あるいは特定の章を通読することが想定されるようなものについては、通常の書架に並べられているものもあります。この場合は貸出もできます。 ※１　"事典", "レファレンスブック", "レファレンスコレクション", 図書館情報学用語辞典 第4版, JapanKnowledge, https://japanknowledge.com , 参照 2020-05-25 A encyclopedia or dictionary is a book that collects and extracts words that represent things, people, and things according to the editorial policy, arranges them as headings in syllabary order or subject, and briefly explains each of them. In this case, you can rent it. 本学に所蔵のない事典・辞書を探す >Find Encyclopedias and Dictionaries that are not in our Library 国立国会図書館は、納本制度によって、国内で刊行されたすべての図書や雑誌を所蔵していますが、国立国会図書館のホームページには、そのうち事典や辞書のみを対象に蔵書を検索する機能があります。「リサーチ・ナビ」の「参考図書紹介」をご覧ください。キーワードから事典や辞書を検索できるようになっています。また、少し情報は古いですが、『日本の参考図書 第4版』（2002. 日本図書館協会日本の参考図書編集委員会編集.）には、事典や辞書の紹介文が、日本十進分類に沿って網羅的に掲載されています。『調査研究・参考図書目録 改訂新版』（2002. 図書館流通センター企画編集室編.）には、1987年から2002年6月までに刊行されたものを中心に、一般的には参考図書には分類されないが参考図書的に使うこともできる文献なども含めて、幅広く参考図書が掲載されています。 これらのツールで検索できる事典や辞書がすべて本学で所蔵されているわけではありませんので、閲覧したい事典や辞書が本学にない場合はレファレンスカウンターに相談してください。 The National Diet Library holds all books and magazines published in Japan under the legal deposit system, but the National Diet Library homepage has a function to search the collection of books only for encyclopedias and dictionaries.Please see "Introduction to Reference Books" in "Research Navi". There are also books that can be called "Encyclopedias of Encyclopedias and Dictionaries" that list up Japanese encyclopedias and dictionaries.See here and here 電子書籍の事典・辞書を探す Find e-book Encyclopedias / Dictionaries 本学で閲覧可能な電子書籍の中にも事典や辞書が数多く含まれています。しかし、電子書籍については、通常の印刷書籍のように事典や辞書だけをまとめて別に並べるといったことはされていません。事典や辞書だけに絞り込んで検索をすることもできません。 電子リソース一覧で「辞典・辞書」を選ぶと、事典や辞書のうちデータベースとして購入したものについての一覧が表示されます。一般的な電子書籍とは違い、キーワードによる検索や逆引き、関連語の表示など機能が付加されており、画面に表示される形式も、PDFではなくテキスト（HTML）で表示されるものがほとんどです。 The e-book collection purchased by our library also contains many encyclopedias and dictionaries. Japan Knowledge Database Integrating Encyclopedias and Various Dictionaries 電子リソース一覧に表示される事典・辞書の中で、もっともよく使われるデータベースです。『日本大百科全書（ニッポニカ）』『改訂新版 世界大百科事典』などの百科事典、『デジタル大辞泉』『日本国語大辞典』などの国語辞典、『国史大辞典』『日本歴史地名大系』『新版 角川日本地名大辞典』『日本人名大辞典(講談社)』『岩波 世界人名大辞典』などの専門的な事典、各種外国語の辞典、『会社四季報(東洋経済新報社)』『日本統計年鑑』『人物叢書(吉川弘文館)』『東洋文庫(平凡社)』など、65種類以上のコンテンツを横断検索できますので、言葉の意味を調べたり、事柄について調べたりする場合に便利です。 This is the most commonly used database among the encyclopedias and dictionaries displayed in the "e-Resource List". The following is an example of how to use encyclopedias and dictionaries. 概念や言葉の意味を正しく調べる Find out the Meaning of Concepts and Words Correctly 大学の授業でのレポート課題には「○○について述べよ」「○○が○○に与えた影響について論ぜよ」といったものが多くあります。そのときに「○○」の指し示す事柄を正しく把握していなければ、的を外したレポートしか書けません。レポート課題だけではなく、言葉を介して学術的なコミュニケーションをとるときに、言葉の定義はとても大切です。事典や辞書は、出版社や執筆者が編集方針を定め、それぞれの分野の専門家が執筆し、別の専門家がそれを監修し、その後さまざまな工程を経て出版されます。誰が書いたのか分からないインターネット上の情報に比べて、一般的に信頼性の高い情報だといえますし、その概念や言葉についてのその時点での定まった解釈を示してくれるものと言えます。ただし「定まった解釈」というのは、それが唯一の「正しい解釈」であることを意味するわけではありません。例えば国語辞書でも、ある辞書には他の辞書にはない言葉が載っていたり、別の辞書には言葉の意味について他の辞書には載っていないような意味まで記載されていたり、そのような新しい言葉や新しい言葉の意味を掲載することには慎重で保守的な辞書があったりなど、編集方針によっておなじ言葉でも異なる解釈で説明がされています。また、事典に掲載される事項の中には、専門家の間でも見解がいくつかに分かれているような事項もあります。事典や辞書の説明だけで概念や言葉の意味を絶対的に定義できるわけではありません。それでも、そこに書かれている解釈を手掛かりに、コミュニケーションの当事者がこれから何について議論しようとするかについて統一した理解を共有することは、発展的なコミュニケーションのためにはとても重要なことであると言えます。 There are many report assignments in university classes, such as "Explain XX" and "State your thoughts about the impact of XX on XX". Even so, if you do communicate without a common interpretation based on the interpretation written in the encyclopedia or dictionary, you will not be able to communicate in a progressive manner. 関連語を引き出して複層的にその概念や言葉を理解する Extract related Words and Understand the Concepts and Words from Multiple Perspectives 事典や辞書は、概念を言葉にしたものや言葉そのものについて、別の言葉で説明するものです。説明に用いられる言葉は、最初に調べようとしていた概念や言葉と密接に関連する言葉や、密接に関連する概念を示す言葉だといえます。例えば『日本大百科全書（ニッポニカ）』（JapanKnowledge, https://japanknowledge.com ,参照 2020-05-29)で「合理主義」を調べると、約1,600字の説明のほかに、「アリストテレス」「機械論」「スコラ哲学」など11の「関連項目」が表示されます。もちろん本文中にも、最初に調べようとした「合理主義」を理解するうえで重要な言葉がいくつも用いられています。これらの関連する事項や言葉を理解することは、最初に調べようとしていた概念や言葉の意味をより深く、複層的に理解することにつながります。 Encyclopedias and dictionaries are tools that describe a concept or the word itself in another language.
